If you've seen HBO's doc "The Latin Explosion: A new America," you know they did a great job at letting us know how Romeo Santos and other Latin@ pop artists have/are making a mark on the US market (esp as Latin@s have become the largest "minority" in the states.) The film talked about artists before this pop generation too, but I was bummed when it didn't go deeper into how Mex- Ams were shaping rock 'n' roll in the 50s/60s and going on tour w/ bands like the Beatles. If you're curious about this music period go see "The Roots of the Eastside Sound, 1955-1965,” at CASA 0101 (down to its last week) which specifically tells the stories of the bands who were bred on LA's east side and those who went beyond it. More on all that here.
